ELP 2011: The Professionalized Embalming Industry
By: Liezl Montepio
“Doing ordinary things extraordinary well.” - John W. Gardner
Like any other profession, embalming is a tough job not meant for the fainthearted. It may not require a college degree and is definitely not like your typical college course but it does require special knowledge and skills that not any ordinary individual can acquire.
The embalmer plays a very critical role in preparing the deceased body for viewing. Excellent preservation, dressing and make up are all part of the tough job.
To ensure the delivery of outstanding embalming procedures and World Class DeathCare services, St. Peter Chapels offers and conducts the Embalmer’s Licensure Program (ELP).
In its desire to professionalize embalming and change people’s perspective on embalming as a morbid and unlikely job, the Embalmer’s Licensure Program has been designed to give professional knowledge and hands-on training to embalmers and aspiring embalmers alike.
It is in fact a necessary profession because death is inescapable; everyone will come to face death. Embalming is a stable and noble job no matter how people may look at it. Through ELP, we are able to emphasize the importance and need for professional and licensed embalmers in society.
The first batch of ELP participants for 2011 took their written examinations last March 2 at the Department of Health in Manila and practical examinations last March 7 to 11 at Floresco North Mortuary Service in Caloocan City. Ninety-one percent (91%) of our examinees passed the exams with flying colors, including the top notcher seat for the practical examinations by our Franchisee, Mr. Haniel Magpantay. Once again, the St. Peter Chapels Embalmers Licensure Program has made a mark as the top training institution for embalmers who consistently garner the highest number of passers.
Once again, congratulations to the following passers of the Embalmers Licensure Examinations!
